Type and Design: Assignment #2

Found Type (publication layout)

For this assignment, I created my very own multi- page, cohesively themed
layout filled with personal photos taken of various forms of typography. Remembering the importance of layout from Assignment #1, I created this "Found Type Book."
The photo on the cover was taken a few summers ago in Spain. I'm really proud of this book, considering how much I struggled with learning how to use the programs and all the time that I put into it. The feed-back from critique was very positive and I'm glad my classmates found it successful. I hope to improve as the weeks go by! I've finally completed all my technical drawing and design classes and am now excited to be learning so much with computers!

Objective:
To explore, discover and photograph everyday typography. You will be
photographing various styles of type both industrial and abstract. Once photographed,
you will be using Adobe InDesign to create a fully designed multi- page digital book
displaying your findings. Your book will contain both imagery and text snippets
describing the photographs you have taken.

Type and Design

A new semester calls for new blog posts!
This was our first assignment for GRA3202 (Type and Design). We had to choose 3 magazine/newspaper articles with different typographical layouts and dissect the designs into simple
rectangles and shapes.
I used Photoshop and placed the original article on the left, and the "dissected" version on the right.

Objective:
To understand the principles of layout
design through the reverse engineering
of current graphic design. Using simple
shapes you will create a visual layout to
its purest form. Your final layout should
only contain black and white shapes.
